K'É THROUGH PLAY

All-white Gallup Children's Museum hand logo with the slogan "K'e Through Play"

K'e, a Diné word meaning kinship, family connection, and belonging, is the core of our vision. Through hands-on, engaging exhibits, we foster a sense of community where children and families can connect with each other and the world around them.

Play is the language of learning, and research shows it's essential for developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills.

We invite you to join us and experience the joy of connecting and learning through play.

OUR JOURNEY

In 2022, a group of parents and educators came together in Gallup with the vision of establishing a children's museum in Gallup.  Inspired by the work of other amazing children's museums in our state, we believed (and still do) that Gallup's children deserve access to a place dedicated to exploring and growing through hands-on learning and play.

Early on, we were very fortunate to become connected with Play Sharity, a children's museum established in 2018 in Deming, New Mexico.  As a children's museum established in a smaller, rural community like ours, they quickly became inspirations and cheerleaders for us in our project.  We are deeply grateful for all the ways in which Play Sharity generously consulted and shared resources with us as we began to work in our community through community events and monthly pop-up museums.

Along the way, we have received an incredible amount of support (both moral and financial) from members of our community.

We initially planned to be formally associated with Play Sharity and open as Play Sharity Gallup, but as time went on we realized we needed to take our own unique shape to be a perfect fit for our community.  And so in 2024 we became Gallup Children's Museum, while not forgetting our debt to our colleagues in Deming.

In 2024 we also began plans to open our first physical location in Rio West Mall.  We officially opened on March 29, 2025 with a two-days-per-week pilot program.  We can't wait to see how we grow from here!
